HypertensionTracker Helps You To Stay Fit And Healthy! You can take the blood pressure readings yourself at home, or have someone do it for you at the hospital.
Self-Monitoring To Control High Blood Pressure Readings
Taking your blood pressure readings directly and recording them is an effective way of reducing hypertension and, in some cases, can lead to eliminating the need for medication. This simple personal action has been documented in an increasing number of publications, ranging from Hints From Heloise, the Journal Of The American Medical Association, the American Heart Association, and other professional medical associations. Self-Monitoring virtually eliminates the artificially high blood pressure readings resulting from white smock syndrome that often occurs in medical offices. It also directly involves the individual in their own treatment and management of their high blood pressure.
Self-Monitoring Saves You More Than Time, Hassles And Money
So, you save on: 1) Taking time off to go to the doctors office; 2) Eliminating the stress of going to the doctors office; 3) Waiting for the nurse to take and record your blood pressure readings; 4) Waiting again for the doctor to review and incorporate them into his patient information system; and finally 5) The cost of the visit in both time and money, regardless of any co-pay amount. Maintaining your own blood pressure readings history puts you in charge of your own regimen, and helps your doctor by providing more detailed information on your progress.
A Few Minutes A Day Keeps You In Charge Of Your Progress
There's no better positive reinforcement than seeing for yourself that your blood pressure is being kept under control, and by your own efforts. Blood pressure readings displayed graphically can quickly highlight any needed adjustment, either a change in medication (like eliminating the need for any), to avoiding an extra side of Pico De Gallo. And, any change is noticed immediately, not some time later during a visit to a doctors office for a checkup. This at-a-glance review capability helps you to get your blood pressure readings down, and keep them down by indicating when a correction or adjustment may be needed.
FutureWare's Personal HypertensionTracker: Easier To Use Than An Excel Spreadsheet To Use
Included is a Palm/Handspring companion program with a HotSync AutoInstall feature for easy synchronization of readings history. For PalmOS Version 2.0 and up.
Introduced And Featured At
FutureWare's Personal HypertensionTracker main window, with the dialog where blood pressure readings are entered after they've been taken on a blood pressure monitor. Multiple daily readings have a contrasting color block set to the highest and lowest values in the range. The program maintains and displays daily blood pressure readings in a set of color-coded bar charts, which can be printed in tabular and bar graph form on any desktop printer. The charts can also be faxed to a doctor's office.
Internet convenience features include securely email readings to a doctor, as well as phone-in and online prescription reordering.
Faster and easier to use than an unsecured Excel spreadsheet!
Theres no mystery on how blood pressure is measured, or how to do the measuring. Most doctors offices still use a manual system with a pressure cuff, stethoscope and a stop watch, that, arguably, is subject to some interpretation. In contrast, for less than the cost of a visit to the doctors office you can buy an auto-inflating, self-adjusting blood pressure monitor that requires no more than pushing a button. You can find these auto-inflating blood pressure monitors on eBay, in drug stores, but surprisingly not in hospital gift shops nor (not surprisingly) are they typically offered by doctors. Recording the readings, using anything from a plain piece of paper to blood pressure software from FutureWare, is not only quick, but more importantly documents the progress of your health regimen. This can be reviewed for ongoing self-monitoring, confirmation, and support of regimen changes.

Your Health: Your Most Valuable Asset
Keeping fit and healthy is something everyone wants to do, but we cannot continue to be passive in taking preventative actions to safeguard our health. The increasing cost of medical coverage, doctors with ever growing case loads having less time for their patients, the shrinking number of trained and experienced health professionals, and the limits and risks of quick-fix medications make it increasingly necessary to become more involved in making sure we remain fit and healthy, and maintaining a reviewable history of our health signs, such as blood pressure. We invite you to download and test drive our Personal HypertensionTracker at no cost and without obligation, to see for yourself how you can protect your investment in yourself.
Treating Hypertension And High Blood Pressure With Diuretics
Diuretics remove water by increasing urination, with different mechanisms depending on the diuretic agent used.
Many prescription drugs for blood pressure medication operate as diuretic agents. Many of the common ones have varying effectiveness and costs as outlined in a January 2008 Forbes article.
Some natural diuretics are effective for homeopathic treatment.
Diuretics can have medication side effects, particularly when used in conjunction with another drug, either over the counter or prescription. Attention to these are best done by regular monitoring and recording blood pressure readings, weight, and side effects such as mood, urination rates, etc.
Exercise can be effective as a natural diuretic, but dont overdo it: Better to do a little a lot, than a lot a little.
Hypertension: The Silent Killer
Regardless of the primary cause, high blood pressure, or hypertension in medical lingo, is something that more and more Americans either have now, or very probably will have in the future as the natural progression of aging and living longer. Unlike most ailments, high blood pressure does not have any symptoms, which is why it is called the silent killer. High blood pressure generally can be managed in several ways, often with a combination of life style changes, regular exercise, and in some case with medication. Because high blood pressure is symptomless, it has to be checked externally on a regular and frequent basis by monitoring and recording blood pressure readings.

A Short Product History
FutureWare has developed mainstream software products from its beginnings in 1984, but at the end of 2003 it accidentally expanded into a new area when one of our founders had what was later diagnosed as a kidney stone.
The First Visit To The Health Industrys Production Side
It was pretty bad, and thinking that he wouldnt survive the evening, he decided to die at home rather than be strapped into a hospital gurney. Some twelve hours later he did go to the hospital, for a roughly seven hour stay, where he was attended, cumulatively, for about 20 minutes. Not surprisingly, he was told that his blood pressure was very high and should be attended to immediately. Being very active and healthy and without a regular doctor, he asked for a recommendation.
An Instructive Second Visit
After an hours wait at the doctors office, he was told that his blood pressure was very high, but could be controlled by medication, and he would have to come back at least once a week while the dose was being adjusted, and todays visit was $150, please pay on the way out. The initial medication made him smell like a chemical dump, the frequent office visits didnt make sense, and the cost seemed excessive.
A Matter Of Incentives
So he bought a blood pressure monitor, took his blood pressure and pulse readings three times a day and recorded them in an Excel spreadsheet. He also determined to avoid medication, made some minor dietary and lifestyle changes, and in a month got his blood pressure readings back to normal, eliminating the medication.
Alls Well That Ends Well
The Excel spreadsheet was replaced by a purpose-built software program now known as the Personal HypertensionTracker. Some time later, in a follow-through on the kidney stone with another doctor, the software program came up, and the doctor asked if something like that could be done for diabetes, which led to our line of WellnessTracker products.
Lessons Learned
We know that these products have been useful to customers whove purchased them, and we keep improving the programs as a result of customer suggestions and comments that continue to come to us. Hopefully, our next product family wont have as dramatic a start as this one did.
