Flex Providing Users Increased Security
Adobe’s Flex has a lot going for it for Rich Internet Applications. Some of the benefits are indirect but no less welcomed.
Whether delivered in a browser or directly on the desktop/laptop using AIR (Adobe Integrated Runtime), Flex’s advantages go beyond ease of development and freedom from browser idiosyncrasies. Its direct handling of I/O eliminates any need for CAPTCHAs, eliminating the possibility of programmatic attacks.
These can be secured further by using a programmatic POST for data exchange, hiding the service portal from the bad guys as well. This can be augmented by doing these in an SSL context.
Initially drawn to Flex because of its high interactivity, particularly the elimination of the page refresh irritations, we’re finding more and more to like about it, and look forward to finding more.
